|
|
Hi,
I'm using the latest released andLinux (Beta 1 from Apr 21st, 2008). I was wondering about moving forward to the next Ubuntu (8.04).
Looking at this website, andLinux development seems frozen - nothing in the "news" page since May 1st. Also in the forums, I don't see anything recent from the devs.
1. What's the current status of this project?
2. Is development frozen?
3. Is there a new, Ubuntu 8.04 based, release coming?
-or-
4. Has anyone successfully upgraded the andLinux Ubuntu to 8.04? Can anyone provide the exact steps needed for this upgrade (if any)?
Thanks, Noam. |

Hi,
yes, this (and several other) updates are planned. Unfortunately, both David and me have been very short of time recently, so this will still take a couple of weeks.

Looking forward to the next version. When it is released, could you please be sure to tell us if it was possible for the developers to duplicate this problem and correct it?
I only see this problem being reported in XP and possibly Vista. Any word on whether it also affects Windows 2000 Professional SP4? |

| Would be most welcome news. Gutsy is 'obsolete' now, so no more security & package updates. I've tried several times to upgrade to 8.04, using do-release-upgrade which works OK, but there are issues with Firefox and TerminalEmulator (in the XFCE version) which I cannot resolve. So an official upgrade to the LTS Hardy distro would be great news. |

Just hope Joachim will replay. |

Sorry that it took so long. There were so many unforseeable things that the Beta 2 rc1 release got delayed so long. But now it's out finally |

I wasn't able to reproduce this problem on any computer I have access to. Anyhow, as the issue is probably coLinux related, the best way to proceed would be to run coLinux in debugging mode (cf. http://colinux.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/colinux/branches/stable/doc/debugging) and report the errors to the coLinux developers.
You may also try the coLinux testing kernel 0.8.0 included in the Beta 2 rc1 release to see if this issue still persists in the coLinux development kernel. |

Could be coincidence, and I'm running a different version of Windows, as well. Thanks for saying it's not reproducible. |

I also never experienced this problem but i am using the development coLinux kernel since one year, but i think there ware some reports at coLinux that in some situation this could happen, and some fixes to it as well.
One thing i remember is hat one could not use "sleep 0" in Scripts.
Look at coLinux Forum and changelog, i think you will find answers.
Sure you should try to trace the problem down, to what is causing it.
But be sure it is not a very common problem. |

This might be old news to some, but I just learned that the next version of Abaqus (v6.10), which will be released next year, will for the first time not support 32-bit Linux. 32-bit Windows is still supported but 32-bit Linux is not. I still use Linux on my laptop from time to time, and I currently prefer to use Linux over Windows for various reasons. So if you have the same preferences as me, then you need to either switch to Windows or get a 64-bit laptop. Which kind of bugs me.
I am curious to hear if there are any other Abaqus users out there that use Abaqus on a 32-bit Linux computer. Or am I the only Linux laptop enthusiast...
