|
|
Hi,
the advice in the topic "Non-US keyboard" to do "apt-get install localeconf" does not work for me as I get "Couldn't find package localeconf".
I do have "andlinux-beta1rc6-minimal.exe" installed.
Any hints, please?

| So far my research shows that localeconf is not part of Ubunty Gutsy (that andLinux builds on) because it is buggy and unmaintained. I have not found any other way. |

| You should be able to find the package somewhere on the wild webs still....but it may require some deep Google hunting. |

My keyboard has a LatinAmerican layout, so I was suffering a lot switching from one set to the other while changing from XP apps to andLinux.
Looking at several tutorials, I successfully reconfigured the keyboard layout in andLinux.
1st: the console (the one attached to andLinux emulation)
following this guide https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LocaleConf I changed my layout using the command
dpkg-reconfigure console-data
as root or sudoing if you're a plain user (you need to install sudo and modify etc/sudoers, also install console-data if not present; both with synaptic)
2nd: Xfce console (the one comunicating to Xming, and launched by andLinux menu)
just used Xfce settings console explained at http://www.xfce.org/documentation/4.2/manuals/xfce-mcs-manager typing the command
xfce-setting-show
at a root console (I guess sudoing will also work).
Both changes should enter into effect once you shut-down and then restar andLinux server.
I hope it helps, Wolf. |

Change your whole system to UTF8 and you have a real complete solution
in kde konsole, kedit, the text console (except the euro sign), konqueror. Not the easiest way, but at least it works
apt-get install console-setup, select German and combined font
apt-get install language-selector-qt
in kcontrol country/region/language
1. install new language german, automatic download over apt-get, takes some minutes
use show details on apt-get installation, because you are asked which dictionary you want to use (not really important)
2. select system language german
select keyboard in kde
tastatur 105 tasten nodeadkeys
for windows/samba shares:
use cifs instead of the old smbfs with iocharset=utf,codepage=cp850.
use ip instead of windows-host, this seems to be a bug of colinux, other windows share work fine with name
e.g.
mount -t cifs //192.168.11.1/I /mnt/win -o iocharset=utf,codepage=cp850,user=user,password=pass
(place it in /etc/rc.local)
